At SBG Scarborough, One Tribe, One Vibe is more than a slogan—it’s the backbone of our culture and the standard we uphold every day. Technique, conditioning, and curriculum matter, but the environment in which people train matters even more. A martial arts gym is only as strong as the people inside it, and we protect that strength deliberately. Our tribe is built on respect, humility, and shared growth, and we work hard to maintain a space where those values thrive.

Helping each other is central to who we are. Martial arts exposes every student—beginner, hobbyist, amateur, or competitor—to moments of challenge and vulnerability. Nobody progresses alone. Improvement happens because someone took the time to explain a detail, slow down a drill, or offer encouragement after a tough round. At SBG Scarborough, that support flows through every level of the gym. Beginners receive patient guidance. Intermediate students refine their skills with partners who push them. Competitors share lessons learned under pressure. Growth becomes a collective effort, not an isolated pursuit.

We are beginner‑friendly, but we are not ego‑friendly; harmful egos have no place in our tribe.

Although we operate as one tribe, our training is intentionally structured. We run separate classes for different levels because people learn best when they’re challenged appropriately. Beginners need clarity, safety, and fundamentals. Intermediate students need deeper technique and controlled intensity. Advanced students and competitors need pace, pressure, and precision. Dividing classes ensures that every student receives the right instruction at the right time. But even with separate classes, the vibe remains consistent across the entire gym. Everyone is part of the same tribe, guided by the same values.

A key part of our philosophy is that we do not accept everyone into our gym. SBG Scarborough is welcoming, but it is not a place for harmful ego or unsafe behaviour. Every new member must meet with our coaches during a trial session before joining. This is not a sales tactic—it is a cultural safeguard. The trial session allows us to understand who you are, what your goals are, and whether you align with the environment we protect. It also gives you a chance to see how we teach, how we communicate, and how our tribe operates. If someone brings arrogance, disrespect, or a mindset that makes training unsafe, they will not be accepted. We are beginner-friendly, but we are not ego-friendly.

A key part of our philosophy is that we do not accept everyone into our gym.

Even though classes are separated by level, the tribe remains interconnected. Students see each other before and after class, share the same space, and celebrate each other’s progress. Beginners watch competitors train and feel inspired. Competitors see beginners learning fundamentals and are reminded of where they started. Hobbyists, parents, teens, amateurs, and pros all contribute to the energy of the gym. The structure may differ, but the culture is shared.

Every new member must meet with our coaches during a trial session before joining, because protecting our culture is not optional—it’s essential.

Ultimately, One Tribe, One Vibe is a commitment—to each other, to growth, and to the environment we protect together. It means you will be supported, challenged, respected, and held to a high standard. It means you are part of something bigger than your individual goals. Whether you train twice a week for fitness, come in daily to sharpen your skills, or prepare for competition, you belong to the tribe. And the tribe trains with purpose.

This is SBG Scarborough. One Tribe. One Vibe.
