Growing Gorillas - Kids Jiu-Jitsu Classes in Scarborough

Kids Martial Arts & Life Skills Program

Growing Gorillas – A curriculum that teaches kids personal development and life skills through martial arts.

HELP YOUR CHILD GROW STRONGER, HEALTHIER, HAPPIER.

Growing Gorillas – The Growing Gorillas program at SBG Scarborough brings the very best kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes to Scarborough. Our curriculum combines the discipline of BJJ with personal development and life skills — helping kids of all ages and abilities become independent thinkers, compassionate leaders, and confident young people ready to take on life’s challenges. Located at 489 Brimley Rd in Scarborough, we offer classes year-round with new students always welcome to join.

Our Kids Jiu-Jitsu program in Scarborough is divided into three age groups so every child gets the right level of instruction. **Micro Monkeys** (ages 6–7): 45-minute classes designed to build coordination and listening skills through fun and play. **Chimps** (ages 8–10): 1-hour classes introducing core BJJ techniques in a structured, encouraging environment. **Juniors** (ages 10–14): 1-hour classes with more advanced technique, live drilling, and light positional sparring. Unlike many other sports in Scarborough, our program runs all year round and new students are always welcome — our rotating 30-week curriculum means your child can start at any time.

Give Your Kid REAL Confidence To Stand Up To Bullies

Confidence is a major key in long-term success in a child’s life and a major deterrent for unwanted bullying.   Instilling our kids with confidence and a strong will is paramount to them having a successful school career, not to mention giving them a huge head start in a world that values charismatic and resilient adults.

Many other styles of martial arts out there are instilling false confidence in their students claiming that what they are learning should work.   At SBG we make sure that the techniques and skill sets we teach actually works!  Since most altercations with kids fall to the ground and grapple, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is ideal as it allows even a small person to control and neutralize and dominate a larger opponent using techniques they practice in class every week.  By practicing our techniques against other kids in class, we build confidence in Jiu-Jitsu and in their everyday lives.

It’s one of the most effective and confidence-building kids programs in all of Scarborough — and we’d love to show you why.

We’re Not A Belt Factory….All Belts Are Earned

At Straight Blast Gym, we are big believers in earning your belt promotions.  While other martial arts are constantly “promoting” their students to the next belt (always with a hefty upgrade fee attached) , we believe in putting in the work before you get the reward.  From a young age, we want to instill the belief that to accomplish something you need to put in hard work.  We believe that belt promotions are earned through more than just showing up for class, but by showing progression on the mats and setting a good example for the other students with their behavior and attitude.

When belt promotions are achieved, there is NO COST TO THE PARENT!  We want both the parent and child to both know that the promotion was earned, not bought, so we cover the expenses involved in all belt promotions.

It’s a promise we make to every family who walks through our doors at 489 Brimley Rd, Scarborough.
